What is it?
The University of Cincinnati Symphony Orchestra is an ensemble for non-music majors. It is open to students, faculty, staff, and members of the Cincinnati community.
How has UCSO been managing during Covid?
Last year, the class met online for Zoom meetings and our actual music-making was mostly individual and in small groups. This year, we are back and better than ever! We meet (masked) in CCM to rehearse every Tuesday just like we used to. We are so excited to be making music together again!
Where/when do you rehearse?
We are finally meeting in person on campus (Mary Emery Hall, 1630).
Rehearsals are held on Tuesday nights from 8:00-10:00 PM.
Can I get credit?
Yes! UC Undergraduate students can register to receive one credit hour per semester, or zero if they prefer.
What kind of orchestra is it?
UCSO is a full, symphonic orchestra with strings, woodwinds, brass, and percussion.
What are the requirements to join?
There is no fee or formal audition required to join the orchestra, only your time and dedication. At the beginning of the year (or for new members that join during the year), the conductors will want to hear you for an informal audition to pick the best program for the orchestra and assign seating order. This "audition" is very informal and NOT like a CCM admissions audition.
Interested students should go ahead and register for ENSM2091 on Catalyst (0 or 1 credit)
Please contact the CCM College Office ([email protected]) if experience any issues during registration.
Does the credit count towards Breadth of Knowledge requirements?
Yes, if you decide to complete the course for credit! You can sign up for either 0 or 1 credit hour; if you choose the latter, the credit will fulfill the BoK "Fine Arts" requirement.
